______F___________Am_______________Dm____________F
There_was_a_mummy_at_the_fair,_all_crumpled_in_a_folding_chair.
____Am______________________________________G___________C
The_people_passed,_but_didnt_care_that_the_mummy_was_a_man,
___G7_____________C7
so_tell_me_if_you_can
Chorus:
F___________C7__F____________C7
Who_are_you?____Who_are_you?
F______________Dm__________________G7__________C7
Where_have_you_been,_where_are_you___going_to?
______F________F7_____________Bb_______Bbm
Well,_Andrew_McCrew_must_have_lost_his_way
_________________F__________G7________C7_______F________C7__F__C7__F
Cause_though_he_died_long_ago_he_was_buried_today.
Verse_1:
F_______C7________F_____C7____________G7___________Csus2_C7
Down_on_nightmare_alley,____where_the_shady_people_sway
__F____C7_______F____C7______G7___________Csus2__C7

________F________C7_________F______C7_________G7__________Csus2_C7
Well_he_hopped_a_freight_in_Dallas,____and_he_rode_out_of_sight
_________F_______F7______________Bb_______Bbm
But_on_a_turn_he_slipped,_and_he_lost_his_grip
_______F______C7______F______C7
and_he_fell_in-to_the_night.
Repeat_Chorus
Verse_2:_(same_chords_as_first_throughout_all_other_verses)
Well,_Andrew_had_one_leg_of_wood,_the_other_leg_was_small.
And_when_he_fell_off_the_train_that_night_he_found_he_had_no_legs_at_all.
Well_they_found_him_in_the_thicket,_and_the_undertaker_came.
And_they_mummified_his_body_for_a_relative_to_claim.
Repeat_Chorus
Verse_3:
But_no_one_came_to_claim_him,_until_the_carnival_passed_through.
The_carnies_took_him_to_their_tent_and_they_decided_what_to_do.
Well_they_dressed_him_in_a_worn-out_tugs_and_they_put_him_on_a_stand.
And_millions_saw_the_legend_called_the_`famous_mummy_man.
Repeat_Chorus
Verse_4:
Well,_what_a_way_to_live_a_life_and_what_a_way_to_die.
Left_to_live_a_living_death_with_noone_left_to_cry.
Petrified_amazement,_and_wonder_beyond_words,
A_man_who_found_more_life_in_death_than_life_gave_him_at_birth.
Repeat_Chorus
Verse_5:
But_what_about_the_ones_who_live_and_wish_that_they_could_go.
Whose_lives_are_lost_to_living_and_performing_for_the_show.
Well_at_least_you_got_the_best_of_life_until_it_got_the_best_of_you,
So_from_all_of_us_to_whats_left_of_you
Farewell,_Andrew_McCrew.

Nice_to_know:
The_song_is_based_on_an_authentic_case._Andrew_McCrew_toured_with
the_carnival,_posthumously,_for_about_35_years._He_was_buried_in_1973.
That_was_when_Don_McLean_read_an_article_about_him_and_wrote_the_song.
When_the_song_came_out,_someone_stepped_forward_and_donated_a_headstone
on_McCrews_previously_unmarked_grave._The_fourth_verse_of_the_song_is
carved_on_the_headstone._(Anyway,_thats_what_Don_McLean_tells_on_the
live_album.)
