Andante_BWV1003_by_Johann_Sebastian_Bach_(1685-1750)
This_serene_and_beautiful_piece_is_taken_from_Sonata_ii_of_Bachs_six_sonatas_and_partitas
for_unaccompanied_violin._It_fits_on_the_guitar_fingerboard_so_well_that_it_is_unnecessary
to_alter_a_single_note_of_the_original_for_this_transcription._Only_the_tempo_and_fingerings
for_guitar_have_been_added.
The_violin_of_Bachs_day_had_a_somewhat_flatter_bridge_and_was_played_with_a_slightly_more
curved_bow_than_the_modern_violin._These_two_factors_made_it_easier_for_violinists_of_the
time_to_play_chords_on_two,_three_or_four_strings_of_the_instrument._This_accounts_for_the
multi-voiced_texture_and_full-sounding_chords_of_this_piece.

29_total_bars._8th_notes_in_all_measures_except_Bar[9]_and_[25]-[26].
Bar[9]_and_[27]_32nd_note_flourishes_are_either_performed_with_slurs_(hammer-ons_and_pull-offs)
or_cross_string-fingerings._A_cross-string_fingering_is_one_in_which_stepwise_notes_are_fingered
on_different_strings_rather_than_along_a_single_string._This_is_the_easiest_way_to_play_
scales.
Bar[7]_and_[26]_I_have_left_the_optional_notes_in_brackets_(3)_on_the_1st_E_string._I_
for
the_g_note_on_the_open_g_string_(4th_string)._I_have_included_the_original_fingering.

Tips
The_most_noticeable_aspect_of_this_work_is_the_bass_line_in_constant_eighth_notes,_which_is
present_for_all_but_four_measures._To_avoid_sounding_monotonous,_try_to_play_the_bass_line
in_as_musical_and_expressive_as_possible._To_gain_as_much_separation_as_possible_between
the_melody_and_the_bassline,_be_sure_to_play_all_the_bass_notes_with_the_thumb
